A real chart of accounts, not a checkbook
A lot of property-management software ships an "accounting lite" mode that is really just a transaction list with categories. Compass doesn't.
- Bank accounts segregated by purpose: operating, trust, reserve.
- Chart of accounts with system defaults and custom entries you can add.
- Transaction ledger for manual entries, imports, payments, and payouts.
- Invoices with payment tracking and status.
- Payment methods — ACH, card, check, cash.
Why it's free
Because most of what makes accounting expensive is custom integrations and support contracts. Compass gives you a real chart of accounts, real ledgers, and real exports — and bills you nothing per unit. Hand the exports to your accountant or pipe them into the tools you already have.
What we don't do (yet)
We don't generate Schedule E forms. We don't yet integrate with QuickBooks or Xero. We do export everything as CSV and JSON, and the data model is documented — your accountant or a downstream tool can sync from it.
